The spirit of experimentation lives on through four generations of the Brown Family who are constantly trialling unique and emerging varieties including the King Valley Gamay. Planted at our Banksdale vineyard in 2011, the Gamay vines enjoy the high-altitude growing conditions to produce fresh and lively wine. The 2023 Gamay is a soft, juicy wine that reveals delightful notes of red berries, cherry and subtle pepper spice. Vibrant and textural, it is best enjoyed young. Try it chilled with Asian-inspired dishes.
The Gamay style is quite versatile when it comes to food. It is light enough to try with quail wrapped in prosciutto with stir fried vegetables. Or try it with a selection of cold meats, such as salami and aged Jamon.

Jeni Port - Halliday Wine Companion • 22/03/2024Gamay is having a moment and why not when the grape looks and tastes as joyous and full of summertime flavour – and fun – as this? Brings everything together in the one place in cherry, mulberry, plum, wild herbs, pink peppercorn and florals of lifted violet and earthy rhubarb. It's bright, it's smooth-flowing, it's utterly delightful.
The wine was made utilising whole berry fermentation to enhance red berry aromas. To add a layer of complexity the Gamay was aged in older French oak. The 2023 Gamay was bottled with an alcohol of 12.5%.
